Plus usually it's possible to download the patch within a few minutes of the server being taken down, its unusual. Why is my Neverwinter download taking so long? Hi, I recently found out about Neverwinter and started downloading it however, I noticed it downloading rather slow. Anyways I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or it's just me. I noticed significant lag and jerky movements in the initial area and set my graphics fairly low to compensate, though that hardly fixed the issue. Then I walked into town and..wow! The simple sequence of click to talk to NPC --> NPC says something --> my reply choices appear --> my reply is registered --> NPC responds -> I get new reply options
..takes MINUTES! I know some of those steps sound silly to separate, like 'don't your reply options pop up when the NPC's text does?' Except..no, they don't! Each step in that sequence has a 20 - 60 second waiting period for me! Just walking around is also a chore, and many times I'll click on the ground and see the click sort of slo-mo ping, and then..I just won't move. Even calling up the menu takes several seconds. What is going on, how is the game this unplayable?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 4 GB RAM. I tried checking if the affinity was set to only one core, and it was (and I tried the other CPU but that didn't help at all, either). What is wrong? Please help me..

Specifically, what did you set the cpu affinity to? I'll have to research it but IIRC it is supposed to be -1 (memory is foggy caffeine levels critically low) .. maybe -2. ..takes MINUTES! On the Video Options, I have nothing enabled. Overall graphics qualty set to low and texture quality set to 16 meg (I could put those sliders further left, but I tried and it made no difference). Shadow Detail slider is all the way to the left. Gamma Slider is in the middle.
On the Advanced Video Options menu, no checkboxes are checked. Grass, Creature Wind, # of Dynamic Lights, Shadow Casting Lights, and Anti-Aliasing sliders are all fully to the left and/or set to OFF.
For Affinity, my only options are CPU 0, CPU 1, or both. I have it set to CPU 0.

You really should have more RAM on a 64 bit system. I'm not certain what's going on in your game, but I can tell you that I also have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with 16GB RAM and NWN runs flawlessly, so it has to be something on your system. Have you checked your video drivers, and even consider a rollback if necessary, since some drivers just don't work well with some games. I can also tell you that my system required absolutely no tweaks like compatibility or core affinity; the game just works, right out of the box.streamofthesky

When I got my computer ~2009, 4 GB RAM was pretty good, I actually was told to get 64 bit instead of 32 bit (back then 32 bit was more compatible with various programs) because I'd need it to get such a high RAM in my laptop. I understand technology has marched on, but my computer is still several years newer than this game.. And the page for the game has the following for minimum system requirements: '..256MB RAM (512 recommended).' So I really don't see why it would be due to my RAM.
What exactly should I be checking for with my drivers? My graphics card drivers are already rolled back to 2006 for last update in order to make Age of Empires II run correctly.

I never said it was due to your RAM, I said that you really should have more RAM on a 64 bit system. Speaking of which, the game's minimum requirements are NOT 256MB, they are 1GB (2GB recommended). What exactly should I be checking for with my drivers? My graphics card drivers are already rolled back to 2006 for last update in order to make Age of Empires II run correctly.
So you have rolled back your drivers to 2006 drivers, and the game itself was not released until the end of 2006. I'm beginning to see where this may be leading. You need to look again at your drivers, and update them if necessary.

Yeah, I updated my driver and now it works. The resolution is a bit screwy, I'll have to mess around with the settings. But it isn't cripplingly slow anymore. Thanks for the help.
